VANCOUVER, 16 December 2003 — Markus Naslund scored with 47 seconds to go in overtime to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.
Vancouver’s Trevor Linden tied the game at 3:17 into the third period — his eighth goal of the season and third in the past five games — after Hurricanes rookie Eric Staal had opened the scoring in the second period with his sixth of the year. After starting the season with a 10-game unbeaten streak at home, the Canucks are 2-2-2 in their last six games in Vancouver. Carolina have just three wins in 16 road games this season.
Vancouver jumped into sole possession of first place in the Northwest Division standings, one point ahead of the Colorado Avalanche. Alex Auld made 30 saves, including four in overtime, as the Canucks improved to 11-2-3-0 at home.

In Chicago, Sergei Zubov scored a shorthanded goal midway through the second period to help Dallas to a tie with the Blackhawks. Steve Sullivan scored to give the Blackhawks a first-period lead, while Michael Leighton helped the cause at the other end with 31 saves for Chicago. Marty Turco made 29 saves for the Stars, including five in overtime.

In Anaheim, Raffi Torres scored the winning goal with 5:29 left in the third period to lift Edmonton to victory over the Mighty Ducks.
