RIYADH, 17 December 2003 — The first equestrian championship of Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) countries will start at the King Abdul Aziz Military Academy racecourse here tomorrow.
The championship will run through till Dec. 21.
Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, head of the Youth Welfare Presidency and chairman of the organizing committee, said all preparations had been completed. The prince highlighted the academy’s capabilities to host such a major event.
He welcomed the participation of the private sector in the tournament with generous sponsorship. Dr. Abdelouhed Belkeziz, secretary- general of the OIC, said 18 member countries would be taking part in the tournament.
He said the OIC Sports Federation for Islamic Solidarity, based in Saudi Arabia, was established to organize sports and youth events for the youth in the Islamic world.
