JEDDAH, 19 December 2003 — The Kanoo Inter Division Cricket League for Western Province has begun for the 6th year in succession. The earlier years matches witnessed highly competitive spirit and generated great enthusiasm amongst the employees. The league began on Dec. 12 and the finals will be played on Jan. 23. Four teams playing each other twice on a round robin basis and the top 2 teams will progress to the final to decide winner and runner-up. The teams are as under: Kanoo Commercial, Kanoo Finance, Kanoo Group and Kanoo Travel.
Kanoo Rest XI cruise past Kanoo Travel: The tournament's curtain raiser was the match between last year's champions Kanoo Travel vs. Kanoo Rest XI which was won by Rest XI by 5 wickets. Travel was restricted to 101 for 7 in 12 overs with Rashid topscoring with 24 followed by Aslam with 22 runs. In reply, Rest XI started on a good note but soon lost Shafi. Oliver and Yunus continued the brisk pace of scoring before Yunus (15) was dismissed. Rest lost 3 quick wickets and were precariously placed at 89 for 5. But Sharfuddin and Wasie Khan took their team to the target of 103 for 5 in 11 overs.
