DUBAI, 3 September 2004 — Saudi Arabia made a clean sweep on the second day of the fourth GCC Weightlifting Championships, being held here at the Dubai Club for Special Needs.
Jaffar Mohammad of Saudi Arabia led the way in the 77-kg category. He lifted an amazing total of 350 kg.
Abdul Aziz Surour of Qatar came second while Kuwait’s Faisal Sa’ad was placed third in the category.
Saudi Arabia’s second medal in the day came from Hussain Abdul Latif in the 85kg category.
Latif lifted 310kg for the title. Latif is a former gold medalist at the Arab Championships in 2000.
Another two Saudi Arabian lifters who won gold on the opening day of the event included Ali Ahmad and Abdul Mohsin Hassan. Ahmad won gold in the 69kg category with a total lift of 247.5kg.
Ali Al Mazidi gave the Saudis a fourth gold medal in the junior division of the 69kg category.
