RIYADH, 13 October 2004 — Ali Shahid cracked a blazing 119 (19X4’s) to guide Pakistan International School (PIS) to victory over Manaret Al-Riyadh International School (MRIS), while in another match the Lohit-Wasiullah combination helped International Indian School Riyadh (IISR) beat Al-Momin International School (AMIS) in the Arab News Junior Inter-School Cup 2004 here.
Batting first, PIS started briskly with Omer and Ali Shahid. Ali Shahid was in great form, stroked well and played some wonderful shots to all parts of the ground as Omer played second fiddle to him. None of Manaret Al-Riyadh bowlers were able to stop his stroke play. At the end of stipulated overs PIS scored 187 for 3. Omer made 22 and Abubakr 13.
Saad, Ali and Farhan shared the bowling spoils by taking a wicket each for Manaret Al-Riyadh. In reply Manaret Al-Riyadh were restricted to 107 for 7 in there allotted overs.
Ali Shahid was later adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant unbeaten innings in the tournament organized by Riyadh Cricket Association (RCA) and sponsored by Arab News.
In another match at RCA-2 ground Lohit and Wasiullah combined well and helped IISR beat Al-Momin International School by six runs.
Batting first, IISR aided by Lohit’s 31 (2X4) and Wasiullah’s 40 (4X4), scored 144 for 5 in their allotted over. Rameez added 16 and Soumya 17 in IISR’s innings.
Shahzeb claimed two wickets while Jahangir and Rizwan took a wicket each for AMIS.
In reply AMIS started badly losing both their openers Touseef and Hussnain cheaply but Shahzeb 28 (2X4) and Rizwan 40 (6X4) steadied the innings.
After their exit none of the AMIS batsman contributed significantly and were bowled out for 138 giving IISR the victory. Lohit, Faraz, Munaf and Waseem bagged a wicket each while Faraz and Faisal took 2 wickets for IISR. Lohit was adjudged Man of the Match for his all round performance.
