JEDDAH, 17 February 2005 — An Indian expatriate was allegedly stabbed when he resisted an attempt by two youths to snatch his mobile phone in Sharafiyyah on Monday evening.
Anwar, 40, who hails from the Kasargode district in Kerala, was rushed to a hospital with injuries to his abdomen.
“I was talking to a friend on my mobile phone when two youths tried to snatch my phone. When I resisted, they stabbed me and ran away without the phone,” he told police from his hospital bed.
Anwar underwent surgery that lasted two hours. “His condition is stable,” Dr. S.V. Manoharan, head of the surgery department at Jeddah National Hospital, said yesterday.
