BEIRUT, 19 February 2005 — A number of Saudi princes, including Riyadh Governor Prince Salman, yesterday visited the family of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri to convey their condolences on the death of Hariri in a bomb blast in Beirut on Monday.
“We were really shocked to hear about the death of Hariri because of his position at Lebanese, Arab and international levels,” Prince Salman told reporters. “Hariri was not only a son of Lebanon but also of Saudi Arabia,” he added.
Other princes who visited Hariri’s family were Asir Governor Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Saudi Ambassador to London Prince Turki Al-Faisal, Prince Khaled ibn Sultan, assistant defense and aviation minister for military affairs, and State Minister Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Fahd.
Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal attended Hariri’s funeral in Beirut on Wednesday and conveyed the condolences of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah.
Prince Salman was accompanied by a number of princes including Prince Saud ibn Fahd, deputy director of intelligence, Prince Saud ibn Naif, Saudi ambassador to Spain, and Prince Sultan ibn Salman, secretary-general of the Supreme Commission for Tourism.
Meanwhile, funeral prayers for Hariri were performed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.
