What’s happening in our neighborhoods and on our streets these days? Since when have thieves had the guts to steal and rob without fear of apprehension?
Wherever you go, you hear complaints of how our streets have become crime scenes. Mobile phones are snatched from people walking on the street, about to get into a car or even waiting in their cars at traffic lights.
Other thieves follow people leaving banks or force their way into ATMs and rob them. Some break into houses, scaling high walls and fences in broad daylight. Any attempt to resist will see the resister brutally assaulted.
People are attacked and beaten up inside their homes and in the street before being robbed. Everyone is asking what is going on, and why such incidents are on the rise as thieves get bolder and bolder every day.
The following are all experiences that took place during a single month. A relative told me that his father who was leaving a bank was taken by surprise when a man snatched the envelope he was carrying in his hand. The thief sped away in a waiting car along with the money belonging to my relative’s father.
My sister’s neighbor saw thieves trying to climb over the walls of my sister’s house while she was out of town. When the neighbor shouted at the thieves, thinking his shouts would frighten them off, some of them continued climbing the walls while others beat the man with clubs they were carrying with them.
A friend said while he was walking in the street talking on his cell phone, a young man approached him and shook his hand. The next thing my friend knew, he had been punched in the face and his phone was gone along with the young man.
Another had his phone snatched from him while he was in his car waiting for the traffic light to turn green. One man was attacked inside an ATM and forced to withdraw the largest possible amount.
Such stories are now all too familiar and are the talk of the town. This is a very upsetting phenomenon which calls for urgent and immediate action. We must have peace and tranquility return once again to our streets and neighborhoods.
