RIYADH, 22 February 2005 — The Kingdom and Britain signed a service agreement yesterday to provide international accreditation to the vocational training system in Saudi Arabia.
On behalf of the General Organization For Technical, Educational and Vocational Training (GOTEVOT), Deputy Governor for Development Dr. Saleh Al-Amr inked the accord, while the Director of Compliance at City and Guild, Murray Butcher represented two leading UK awarding bodies — City & Guilds and Edexcel International. The visiting Duke of York, Prince Andrew and British Ambassador Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles were present at the signing ceremony.
“The partnership program brokered by the British Council in conjunction with the British Embassy will develop mutually beneficial relationships between the two countries in the field of education and vocational training,” Dr. Al-Amr told Arab News.
Full international accreditation of the vocational education and training system in the Kingdom will enable GOTEVOT’s students to register with the UK awarding bodies and receive UK certificates and diplomas, in addition to the GOTEVOT certification.
