RIYADH, 24 February 2005 — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is safe and secure for foreign workers to lead a peaceful life in a healthy environment. This was the observation made by Indian poet laureate Dr. Vairamuthu before a packed audience at the Indian International Girls School here. The popular lyricist who was here to inaugurate the Federation of Tamil Societies in the capital, was addressing a large Tamil audience after inaugurating the federation.
“Saudi Arabia is the birth place of the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who preached what he practiced. I am happy to say that the Prophet’s teachings are followed well by the government for the greater good of the people,” Vairamuthu said, adding that he loved the Kingdom for its strict implementation of Islamic law and order which guides its citizens and expatriates to lead a happy, safe and secured life.
He pointed out that people’s saving power in the Kingdom is very high since earnings are tax-free and its society is free of vices. Vairamuthu appealed to the Indian expatriates to be more loyal to their Saudi sponsors since this holy land provides bread and butter for their kith and kin back home.
He felt that expatriates should not lose sight of Tamil language and culture, “They should speak Tamil at home and teach their children the language which is rich in its culture,” he said, adding that frequent dialogues among community members will pave the way for understanding Indians’ needs and aspirations better Vairamuthu, five time national award-winner for Tamil lyrics, was introduced to the audience by Ambassador M.O.H. Farouk.
