BHOPAL, 26 February 2005 — A Bhopal court has framed charges against Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Babulal Gaur and some of his top Bharatiya Janata Party colleagues in a case dating back to 1993.
The accused had allegedly led a mob to the sealed RSS office Keshav Needam in Shanti Nagar locality, tried to force it open and attacked the policemen trying to stop them.
On June 13, 1993, the local Hanumanganj police had registered a case against Gaur, BJP national General Secretary Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Minister of State for Transport, Uma Shankar Gupta, party MP Laxminarayan Sharma and Bhagwandas Sabnani, among others, for the incident. The case was registered against all of them under sections 147, 148, 149 and 332 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The mob they had allegedly led was hundreds-strong, mostly comprising RSS workers.
The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rashmi Agarwal on Thursday framed charges against the accused and has set March 10 as the next date of hearing for recording evidence.
