DHAKA, 26 February 2005 — Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has instructed the Home Ministry and the intelligence agencies to take stern action against militants across the country. She also decided to set up an additional bench at the high court to ensure speedy trial of cases related to subversive acts, sources said in Dhaka yesterday.
Khaleda held meetings with the officials of Home Ministry, police and intelligence agencies and told them to take strong action against all groups involved in militancy.
The prime minister said those creating chaos in the name of religion are the enemies of the country and should be punished.
Khaleda instructed the law enforcers to arrest anyone involved in crime, even if he belongs to the ruling party. She also warned that policemen misusing power or involved in corruption would be punished.
