JEDDAH, 5 March 2005 — Prominent figures such as Khalifa Ahmed Al-Dossari, Muhammad ibn Turki Al-Turki and Ahmed ibn Abdul Rahman Al-Moussa were declared elected to the Dammam Municipal Council in the second phase of civic elections held in the Eastern Province on Thursday.
Other contestants elected to the Dammam council were: Abdullah ibn Ali Al-Majdoue (from the fourth constituency), Muhammad ibn Mubarak Al-Khater (fifth), Hamad ibn Abdullah Al-Baadi (sixth) and Madhi ibn Muhammad Al-Hajri (seventh). Al-Dossari, Al-Turki and Al-Moussa were winners of the first, second and third constituencies.
Dammam Mayor Ibrahim Balghuneim, who announced the preliminary results yesterday, estimated the turnout of voters in the province between 70 and 75 percent. “We’ll announce the number of votes received by each winner after the announcement of final results,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted the mayor as saying. Elections all over the province, except Hafr Al-Baten, were held smoothly without major incidents and the mayor said the result of Hafr Al-Baten was withheld following chaos and confusion at Polling Station 365 in the governorate where re-election will be conducted today.
Balghuneim said he hoped the result of Hafr Al-Baten would be ready by this evening. He thanked voters for the cooperation and said he appreciated the discipline they displayed throughout the election process.
The winners in the Qatif Municipal Council elections were: Eisa Al-Mizaal, Nabeeh Al-Ibrahim, Ali Al-Hay, Jaafar Al-Shayeb and Riyad Al-Mustafa those in the Jubail council were: Khaled Al-Otaibi, Khaled Al-Khaledi, Muhammad Al-Bouainain and Ibrahim Al-Otaibi.
Voters in the oil city of Ras Tanura elected Nawaf Al-Shammary, Badr Al-Yousuf and Miteb Al-Otaibi while Al-Khafji voters picked Midghesh Al-Shammary, Tarheeb Al-Shammary, Fahd Al-Marry and Nashmi Al-Dossari. In Abqaiq, the elected candidates were: Musha Al-Hajri, Misfer Al-Dossari, Raja Al-Hajri and Khaled Al-Hajri.
The winners in the Maleeja Municipal Council poll were: Manahi Al-Ajami, Farraj Al-Ajami and Obaid Al-Ajami. Voters in Saeera elected Saeed Al-Motairy and Mutlak Al-Motairy, while Sarar’s voters picked Abdullah Al-Ajami and Khaled Al-Ajami.
Saud Al-Duwaish and Badr Al-Duwaish were elected to Lahaba council; Mutlak Al-Duwaish, Fawaz Al-Duwaish and Rajeh Al-Otaibi to the Olaya council; Naif Al-Motairy, Falah Al-Azmi and Shubaib Al-Azmi to Naeeriya council and Fahd Al-Motairy, Nawaf Al-Duwaish and Naif Al-Duwaish to the Rafeea council.
