BHOPAL, 5 March 2005 — Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh was yesterday granted bail by a Gwalior court in a defamation case for allegedly making objectionable remarks against a Hindu fundamentalist organization Rashtriya Swyamsevak Sangh (RSS).
According to an agency report from Gwalior, Judicial Magistrate First Class Ganga Charan Dubey granted bail to Digvijay on a bond of Rs. 10,000 and a surety of the like amount and directed him to appear for hearing on April 6.
Complainant Avadhesh Singh Bhaduria had alleged that Digvijay made some defamatory remarks about RSS while addressing a meeting in Bhopal in September 2003. The court had earlier asked the state director general of police to probe the matter.
