Recent studies show that one in five children receive an online sexual solicitation each year and 29 percent of children freely give out personal information online if asked. A new campaign, called the Internet Keep Safe Coalition or iKeepSafe, is a US state-supported educational program that will use children’s books, web materials and other means to emphasize simple and memorable tips for children to stay safe online. The goal of the coalition is to protect children from Internet predators by ensuring children understand and practice safe online behavior.
The Coalition’s educational program is built around three basic tips: KEEP. DON’T MEET. TELL. That is, KEEP your personal information protected: Never give anyone online your real name, address, phone number, the name of your school or picture of yourself. DON’T MEET anyone in person you’ve found online. And, TELL a parent or trusted adult if you see or receive anything on the computer that makes you feel uncomfortable.
The new Internet safety campaign will be led by Faux Paw the Techno Cat: A cyber-agent for the Internet Age, who will give children online safety instruction. The iKeepSafe.org website offers a virtual playground of material promoting Internet safety. Parents and children can watch the Faux Paw animated story, read the book, play games and learn Internet safety tips through Faux Paw the Techno Cat instruction. The website also offers resource materials for parents and educators, including child-friendly safety quizzes, worksheets and coloring book printouts.

You Software Introduces ‘You Perform: Save Attachments’
You Software has launched “You Perform: Save Attachments,” a new add-in for Microsoft Outlook that helps users and IT professionals cut through e-mail overload by automatically filing attachments in user-defined folders as soon as they arrive in an inbox.
“You Perform: Save Attachments” can be fine-tuned to meet a wide variety of workflows and use patterns. For simplicity, all attachments can be saved automatically to a single user assigned folder. For more advanced control, “You Perform: Save Attachments” can be configured to only save attachments when a set of user-defined criteria is met. Attachment files can be renamed and filed based on the sender’s name or e-mail address, e-mail subject title, the attachment name as well as by the date the attachment was received.
When the attachment is removed and stored, the e-mail still retains the paperclip icon indicating the e-mail was sent with an attachment. Opening the e-mail reveals a hyperlink to the new file location. When an e-mail is forwarded the attachment is automatically replaced and included with the e-mail. An undo feature can be used to return the attachment to the original e-mail. When e-mails are deleted from mailboxes users are asked if they want to delete the saved attachment with the deleted e-mail.
In addition to efficiently storing attachments from incoming mail, “You Perform: Save Attachments” can be used to dramatically reduce the size of Outlook mailboxes. Existing e-mail messages sitting in an Outlook inbox can be scanned and the attachments will be removed and stored in the designated folder on the user’s hard disk.
