JEDDAH, 10 March 2005 — Batterjee Medical College, whose construction is currently in full swing, is to begin enrolling students for the preparatory year in September, Sobhi Batterjee, president of Saudi German Hospitals Group (SGHG), said yesterday.
The preparatory year is meant to equip students with adequate knowledge of English, he told Arab News on the sidelines of the second two-day minimally invasive neurosurgery symposium which began at the SGHG auditorium.
The college complex, located in Obhur, north Jeddah, is set for official opening in 2006. Until then the college will function in a temporary building, said Batterjee.
The complex will initially have four colleges — medicine, dental, nursing and pharmacy. It will subsequently have five other colleges — X-ray, lab, physiotherapy, health sciences and medical records.
SGHG is considered to be the largest private health care company in the Middle East and North Africa. SGHG is now promoting one hospital of 300 beds every year.
“Our vision is to design, finance, construct and operate 30 world-class hospitals by 2015 and create 50,000 jobs in health care sector,” said Batterjee.
