ABU DHABI, 14 March 2005 — The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) may continue to pump oil above its formal supply limits to help cool overheated markets, UAE Oil Minister Mohamed Al-Hamli said yesterday. The oil minister of the United Arab Emirates did not specify the level of current OPEC production, but a Reuters survey has showed output running some 600,000 barrels per day (bpd) above the official 27 million ceiling. Hamli said in a statement he expected a drop in petroleum demand of 1 million bpd in the second quarter and foresaw a potential build in global inventories of 2 million bpd.
