TRIVANDRUM, 19 March 2005 — Travel to the Gulf from Kerala will now be cheaper than flying to any north Indian cities.
Air India Express, the no-frills subsidiary of Air-India, yesterday announced the cheapest fares for the passengers who opt for e-ticketing through its website, starting from 2,394 rupees.
The Maharajah’s maiden budget flight will take off from here with VIPs, including Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, on April 29.
A one-way ticket for Dubai from any of the three Kerala airports is offered for 3,500 rupees while the return ticket will cost 4,190 rupees. For Abu Dhabi, it is 3,250 rupees from Kerala.
From Bombay and Delhi, the AIE offers e-tickets for 2,750 rupees while the return ticket will cost as little as 2,394 rupees. The fare for Salalah from Calicut is 5,500 rupees.
Fares and exact date of commencement of flights on other routes were not immediately available.
Passengers within Kerala are also going to benefit. A Trivandrum-Cochin ticket costs only 500 rupees and tickets to Calicut and back are available at 750 rupees.
Passenger can surf the Air-India Express website (www.airindiaexpress.in) and buy their tickets. They can print their receipts at home. Ticket sales got under way in India yesterday. Sales in the Gulf will open in three days, Air-India officials said.
