ISLAMABAD, 20 March 2005 — Cardiologist Dr. Akmal Waheed and his brother Dr. Arshad Waheed filed an appeal in Sindh High Court yesterday, challenging their conviction by an Anti-Terrorism Court on charges of harboring activists of a banned extremist group and providing them with medical assistance. The court had on March 14 sentenced both doctors to seven years in jail. They were initially booked in cases of attack on the Karachi corps commander and a Rangers patrolling van but the charges were dropped against them by the police in both the cases.
