ISLAMABAD, 24 March 2005 — Pakistani opposition leader in exile Benazir Bhutto plans to visit India next month, ahead of a visit there by her archrival, President Pervez Musharraf. Benazir will visit shrines in the Indian cities of Jaipur and Ajmer and does not have any political meetings planned, her spokesman, Farhatullah Babar, said yesterday. Benazir plans to arrive in India on April 1 and to stay three or four days, he said. The visit will come ahead of a visit to India by Musharraf on April 17 to watch a cricket match between Pakistan and India, during which he hopes to meet the leadership in New Delhi to push a slow-moving peace process. Benazir’s visit could lay her open to charges of trying to meddle in the process but Babar said it would be purely a private visit with her husband, Asif Zardari.
