RIYADH, 29 March 2005 — The Kingdom’s World Health Day celebrations will begin today ahead of the World Health Organization’s designated day on April 7. This year’s WHO slogan — “Make Every Mother and Child Count” — reflects the reality that today, the health of women and children is not a high priority for many governments.
To commemorate the event, the Ministry of Health will hold a national workshop on “Toward a better environment for the child and healthy cities” at the Prince Salman Social Center. The two-day meeting, which will be attended by 200 participants from 20 “healthy cities”, will be inaugurated by Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Mansoor Howasi.
Health Minister Dr. Hamad Al-Manie will issue a special message to the nation to highlight the significance of the day. Salah Al-Mazrou from the Department of Preventive Medicine told Arab News that the whole week would be devoted to carry the messages of the World Health Day to people of all age groups.
