DHAKA, 31 March 2005 — Fourth largest commercial bank of Bangladesh has been put up for privatization by the government to secure a loan from the international Monetary Fund (IMF), sources said. The government yesterday put Rupali Bank up for privatization to secure a $70 million poverty reduction loan which had been put on hold by the IMF, officials said. “We have initiated the privatization process of Rupali Bank and we will soon (publish the) tender,” the head of country’s Privatization Commission, Enam Ahmed Chowdhury said.
