LONDON, 2 April 2005 — The dollar shrugged off disappointing US job creation data for March as well as reports of soft US manufacturing activity and edged higher against the euro here yesterday. The single European currency in late-day trade was at 1.2879 dollars, down from 1.2963 late Thursday in New York.
The dollar was meanwhile trading at 107.74 yen against 107.07 on Thursday.
Sterling, however, got a minor boost from the British equivalent of the survey that rose in line with expectations to 52.0 in March from 51.8 the previous month.
Elsewhere, the yen was off earlier lows but remained weak after a very disappointing quarterly Tankan survey of Japanese business sentiment released by the Bank of Japan overnight.
