KUWAIT, 4 April 2005 — Kuwait’s prime minister said yesterday that a new finance minister will be named soon, replacing Mahmoud Al-Nuri who had asked to step down last year due to health reasons, state news agency KUNA reported.
“Nuri had submitted his resignation a year ago but the government was keen on keeping him in his post ... However, the health reasons which he cited leave us no choice but to respond to his wishes,” Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah told KUNA after the weekly Cabinet meeting.
The announcement from the prime minister ends months of speculation on whether someone new would assume responsibility for the sensitive Finance Ministry portfolio.
