CAIRO, 4 April 2005 — Egyptian actress Summaya Al-Khashab will be wearing the Islamic headdress Hijab on the set of her upcoming film “Amaret Ya’qoubain”, in which she plays the role of a poor girl from a conservative family in one of Egypt’s villages. This is a new facet of the actress.
Summaya will co-star in the film with a number of Egypt’s most prominent actors like Nour El Sherif and Adel Imam.
In the film, Summaya falls in love with Nour and marries him thinking that he is the solution to all her problems. She is shocked to discover that her union with Nour only made her life more difficult.
Summaya is also starring in the new film “Ali Spicy” alongside Egyptian folk singer Hakim, who will mark his debut into the acting world. Summaya was forced to leave to London to be by the side of her ailing husband, who is residing there, creating a state of chaos on the set of “Ali Spicy”.
Meanwhile, the cast of the upcoming film “Amarit Ya’koubain” is facing several lawsuits from the real tenants of Amarit Ya’koubain, who say that the film violates their privacy and rights. The lawsuits are mainly targeted at the producer Imad El Din Adeeb, Waheed Hamed, the scenarist, and Alaa Aswani, the author of the original novel.
The first lawsuit was filed by one of the tenants of the building saying that the film is an insult to them and past tenants, and portrays them as indecent people. The film is considered one of the biggest projects in Egyptian cinematic history. Waheed succeeded in combining some of the most prominent names of the Egyptian cinema in his film. The cast includes Adel Imam, Nour El Sherif, Summaya Al-Khashab, Laila Elwi, Hind Sabri, Ahmad Rateb and Ahmad Budair.
The original tenants of the popular building Amarit Ya’koubain have strongly refused to allow the cast of the film that is named after the building to shoot any of the scenes inside their building. They ordered the door attendant not to allow the cast from even getting close to the premises.
The actors denied that the film insults them in any way and stressed that the film features different aspects of social life that exists everywhere.
The director for the new film will be Marwan, the son of scenarist Waheed Hamid, and he has been given a strong start as his first step into directing. The movie is about fighting corruption and Adel performs the role of a high ranking official who is suspected to be involved in different acts of corruption.
