KARACHI, 9 April 2005— A division bench of the Sindh High Court allowed Saeed Ahmed Shaikh, the father of the prime convict in Daniel Pearl murder case Ahmed Omer Shaikh, to produce the literature and articles that could prove his son’s innocence.
The bench, comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and Justice Azizullah M. Memon, was hearing the appeal filed on behalf of Omar Shaikh, who has been awarded capital punishment by an anti-terrorism court in the Daniel Pearl murder case.
It noted that the father of Omar Shaikh has said that some magazines and newspapers published in the US and the UK proved his son’s innocence, so he should be given one month’s time to arrange and produce the same material before the court. The court is also hearing appeals filed on behalf of three others convicted in the same case. The three were given life imprisonment terms.
