JEDDAH, 10 April 2005 — Labor Minister Dr. Ghazi Al-Gosaibi said yesterday that the Kingdom would treat all foreign workers as guests and they would not be maltreated.
“We have established a new department to protect the rights of expatriates,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted him saying.
Gosaibi was talking to reporters after meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart Muhammad Qamar Al-Islam. The meeting focused on matters related to Bangladeshi workers in the country. According to Gosaibi, there are nearly 1.4 million Bangladeshi workers, including 300,000 women, in the Kingdom.
Gosaibi said that Bangladeshi workers would receive every care. He urged employers to make sure the foreign workers they recruit are well qualified and well trained.
