SANAA, 12 April 2005 — The US Embassy in Yemen reopened yesterday after a two-day closure over concerns of possible militant attacks in the Arab state which also saw the British Embassy shut down, a diplomat said.
“We decided it was time to reopen the embassy as normal,” spokesman John Balian said, though he declined to say whether the perceived security threat no longer existed.
The United States and Britain warned on Friday of a possible militant attack on their citizens and interests in Yemen, which has cracked down on Al-Qaeda supporters since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on US cities.
The British Embassy reopened on Sunday.
