JEDDAH, 14 April 2005 — Jeddah Governor Prince Mishaal ibn Majed will inaugurate the first annual conference of Radiological Society of Saudi Arabia (RSSA) at Crowne Plaza Hotel here at 6 p.m. tomorrow. The inauguration will follow presentation of scientific paper, and plenary and workshop sessions in the next two days.
“Aside from focusing on the issue of radiology and medical imaging, the event will help define the initiative and problems facing all those involved in radiology in this part of the world,” RSSA President Dr. Sattam Lingawi told a press conference.
About 500 participants from within the Kingdom and overseas will attend the three-day event. Overseas speakers include Dr. David Breen of the UK, Najat Bokhereisi of Morocco, and Naji Al-Khori, Hussein Abdul Dayem, and Sarwat Hussein, all from the United States. Three others from Lebanon — Maurice Haddad, Jean Tamraz and Antoine Haddad will also be among the presenters.
Major companies and vendors are mounting a technical exhibition showcasing the latest radiology instruments and equipment, which will run alongside the conference.
King Abdul Aziz University President Dr. Osama Al-Tayeb and Dr. Hussein Malibary, dean of the faculty of medicine, will also attend the inauguration.
According to Dr. Lingawi, Saudis increasingly prefer radiology as a career. “There was a time when considerable effort was made to make Saudis accept a career in radiology. No more. They now have to go through a selection process if they choose radiology as a career,” he said.
