JEDDAH, 15 April 2005 — Nearly 500 outstanding Indian students are expected to take part in the first phase of an annual talent test competition organized by the Jeddah Chapter of the Muslim Educational Society.
The first phase comprising a quiz program, geography contest and essay writing, will take place at Al-Wurood International School at 7 a.m. today, C.P. Saleem, MES president said. The second phase will be held at the same venue on April 29.
The General Talent Competition or GTC, which is held for the fifth consecutive year, target some 20,000 Indian students in the city, including those who come on holidays.
“If we look at the GTC event objectively, there is no other public event in Jeddah that is administered to such a large number of students in the area of a talent search,” Saleem told Arab News.
The competition will be conducted separately for boys and girls (from Class VII to Class XII) in three categories. The final phase including a stage interview and prize distribution will be held on May 6.
The winners selected as the most talented Indian boy and girl from each category will be awarded a shield, a certificate and a gift. Individual winners of various contests such as quiz and elocution will also get certificates and gifts.
