DAMMAM, 18 April 2005 — Parents are weighing their options as the International Indian School Dammam braces for elections to its managing committee in May.
“We must ensure that the outgoing managing committee’s decisions are audited by an independent body”, said Nasir A. “It is not that we doubt the integrity of the outgoing committee, but it is that we wish that a precedence be set so that the new members know from the start that they will be held accountable for all their decisions,” he added.
His comment is significant because many of the committee decisions made during the last year have come under severe criticism from many quarters.
“The parents should not vote like they did the last time, voting for number so and so”, said Mohammad Khalil. “We hope that parents will vote for the candidate on their merits, their integrity, their contribution to the school in the past, their dedication and commitment,” he added.
In past elections, a list was circulated and parents were urged to vote as per the numbers on the list. Most of the parents never even knew the names of the candidates for whom they voted, leave alone their ability to deliver. Votes were given to numerals not individuals.
