JEDDAH, 18 April 2005 — A fire broke out in the industrial area south of Riyadh on Saturday. Losses are estimated to be in the millions of riyals. The fire was in a factory making plastic items and blankets — both highly flammable — and started about 2:00 p.m.
The fire department rushed to the scene and were able to get the blaze under control. One of the firefighters said, “By bringing the fire under control, we managed to prevent it spreading to other factories and buildings.” The cause of the fire has not been determined and police investigations continue.
