SANAA, 19 April 2005 — Yemen and Syria yesterday signed 13 cooperation agreements at the conclusion of three-day meetings of their higher cooperation commission in Sanaa.
The pacts covered cooperation in the areas of judiciary, marine transportation, vocational training, exports development, social and industrial standards, immigration, environment, tourism, culture and education.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Yemen’s Prime Minister Abdul Qader Ba-Jammal said the two countries encountered “some problems in the trade exchanges, mainly the flow of goods.
The two countries agreed to establish a company that would transport goods between Syria and Yemen through the Jordanian port of Aqaba on the Red Sea.
Ba-Jammal said Yemen and Syria also agreed to double the volume of their trade exchange to 40 million dollars in 2006.
Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Naji Utri said the meetings had focused on “following up the implementation of agreements signed in the past and eliminating all obstructions hampering them. Yemeni officials said the meetings reviewed 107 previous agreements.
