MANAMA, 21 April 2005 — Who dunnit? Investigators were baffled on Monday when they discovered that a case they thought was an attempted murder of a 62-year-old woman turned out to be a suicide attempt. The husband reported that he discovered the body of his Bahraini wife stabbed inside their home, following an argument between the two about rebuilding the house. He claimed that his wife stabbed herself in the abdomen and slashed her throat, before attempting to set herself on fire by pouring kerosene on her head. The woman was rushed in an ambulance to Salmaniya Medical Complex where her condition was said to be critical. Sources close to the investigation said that they did not rule out the possibility of foul-play or homicide. The woman’s age has prompted investigators to lean toward disbelieving the husband’s story, according to one source.
