JEDDAH, 25 April 2005 — The Al-Eman Cancer Society (ECS) will hold an open dialogue for women on issues concerning them and the society tonight at the Equestrian Club. Entry is SR10 and all proceeds will go to supporting cancer patients being cared for by the society.
“The goal is to encourage public participation in social issues and empathy between all individuals,” said Al-Jowhara Al-Angari, director of Al-Eman Cancer Society women’s branch. “Everyone attending will be part of the dialogue and have a chance to express their views on social issues and suggest solutions,” she said.
There will be qualified women with expertise in various fields at the dialogue.
“Part of our goal is to present leading women in the community who have contributed through their own personal experiences or their workplace as role models,” said Al-Angari.
The society will circulate a questionnaire to determine topics in the future dialogues. This is the first dialogue.
Upcoming projects for the society include work team to train medical professionals as support groups for cancer patients and their families.
“We are organizing the work team and the issues we want tackled in the weeklong training program which will begin after the summer,” said Reem Al-Harithy, the organizer of the training program.
The program will address all aspects of caring for cancer patients — chemotherapy, nutrition, social, religion — and how to support them psychologically.
