ISLAMABAD, 27 April 2005 — The government is considering releasing militant leader Maulana Abdullah Shah Mazhar, the former chief of banned militant organization Khuddamul Furqan, who has been in the custody of security forces since August 2004 on terror charges.
“Security agencies have completed their investigation and may release Mazhar in the second week of next month,” sources said.
Mazhar was arrested at the Karachi Airport when he arrived from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah. He has been under investigation since then.
Mazhar has served in several organizations on key posts including Herkat-e-Jihad Islami, headed by detained militant leader Qari Saifullah Akhtar.
