TAIF, 5 May 2005 — Some 120 security officers and student guides are attending a two-week long course here on enhancing public awareness on the dangers of drugs.
Abdullah Al-Rubaiaan, deputy governor of Taif, opened the course, which includes cultural programs and an exhibition.
Fourteen experts will give lectures on drugs and their psychological, security, social and health implications and the role of guides in early recognition of drug addiction among students.
Salim Al-Zahrani, director of education in Taif, said the department organized the course in coordination with the Drugs Combating Department to protect students from the dangers of drugs.
“The course is being held to help student guides and security officers to deal with drug users,” Zahrani told Arab News.
Brig. Abdul Razzaq Al-Lami, director of Drug Combating Department in Taif, emphasized the Interior Ministry’s efforts to fight drugs.
“We hold this course to enhance the awareness of concerned officials on the reasons for drug abuse and what precautionary measures to be taken to protect students from drugs,” Lami said.
The department had earlier held two courses for 120 male teachers and guides and 140 female teachers and guides, Lami added.
