ALKHOBAR, 6 May 2005 — Al-Khobar International School hosted a science exhibition recently. Showcased by students and teachers, the exhibits related to electricity, light, electromagnet, chemical reaction and electronic devices. Parents and other visitors were full of praise for the talent demonstrated by the students at all levels, especially key stage 3 (years 7 and 8). They came up with imaginative models. Especially interesting were their demonstrations in the “Darkroom projects” category.
Following were some of the interesting exhibits: A rainbow created by reflections of light through water, solar eclipse designed as a model showing the actual process of eclipse, Dead Sea effect demonstrated by floating eggs in water with a variance in its density, images and shadows created by an extended light source, pinhole camera devised as a working model based on the principles of a real camera or the human eye where an upside down image is formed on the screen, the light source and the globe vividly magnifying the day and night concept, and other working models covering the theme of light like periscope and kaleidoscope were also on display.
Students from key stage 1 and 2 demonstrated miniature power stations, built-in electric circuits and rotor-operated helicopter, as well as working models based on electromagnetic principles.
Teachers demonstrated their skills by exhibiting models of recycled paper, function of human organs and a road map with traffic lights.
Both Mohammad Ibrahim Al-Mansour and Irene Suresh, the school’s managing and academic directors respectively, congratulated the students and teachers. “Events of this kind are indeed worth emulation, which can inspire and create scientists among us,” Al-Mansour said.
