ISLAMABAD, 18 December 2005 — Former Pakistani President Ghulam Ishaq Khan is ill and in serious condition, family sources said. He is 90 year old.
His son-in-law Irafanullah Marwat, a minister in the provincial Sindh Cabinet, told Arab News on Friday that the former president’s health “has deteriorated badly and he is in bad shape.”
After leaving Islamabad, Ishaq Khan quietly shifted to his house in Peshawar in 1993.
The 90-year-old former president belongs to Bannu town of North East Frontier Province.
A graduate of Islamia College Peshawar, ishaq Khan first joined civil service and then took a plunge into politics later.
On Aug. 17, 1988, he became the president succeeding Gen. Zia-ul Haq who was killed in an aircrash.
