AL-QADEM, 22 December 2005 — A 19-year-old Saudi university student was killed while another was injured when their car hit the road barriers and flipped yesterday morning just outside the Bahraini capital Manama.
Yousif Abdul Rahman Al-Shehel, who was a passenger, was pronounced dead on the scene after firemen freed him from the wreck.
He sustained severe head injuries and internal bleeding, as a result of being dragged against the barriers before the car flipped, trapping him in and causing more fatal injuries.
The driver of the car, 19-year-old Saudi Abdul Latif Khaled Al-Mulhem, suffered a broken left arm and minor injuries. He was rushed in an ambulance to Salmanyia Medical Complex where his condition was said to be stable.
Both are first year students at the University of the Bahrain.
The accident occurred on Al-Qadem flyover after a car driven by their 19-year-old Bahraini friend rear-ended them at high speed, causing both cars to drift more than 180 meters.
Initial investigations lead investigators to believe that the youth were racing when the accident occurred.
