ABHA, 25 December 2005 — A Saudi father shocked people at a wedding party when he demanded only one riyal as a wedding dowry from the groom, Al-Watan daily reported. The father said he opposes high dowries that add extra financial pressure on grooms looking for marriage. The father said his main concern is that his son-in-law takes good care of his new bride. He said that he did not want the new couple to start their life burdened by debt.
