JEDDAH, 30 December 2005 — It seems like the art galleries in Jeddah these days are competing with one another. In the past four weeks not an art exhibition ends before another one opens. The exhibitions that feature emerging artists have also included recognized names in the Saudi fine art scene.
There are three major art exhibitions currently running in the city. The House of Artists is hosting the dual exhibition of Hamida Al-Senan and Mohammad Al-Sihati from the Eastern Province after successfully hosting the first exhibition of young Saudi artist and fashion designer Hanan Al-Faisal.
The artists each showed 25 paintings portraying different takes on the search for an abstract identity.
Senan presented to Jeddah fine arts lovers her collection entitled “Purgatory 2050.” Her paintings were distinguished by the luscious colors that symbolically refer to time and earth.
Sihati’s paintings clearly expressed the fashion tradition of the Eastern Province through ornamentations and monuments, but with a collage of abstract touches that accommodated modernity.
The prominent Sudanese artist Awad Abu Salah is also displaying 30 Abstract paintings at the Jeddah Atelier.
The Ebda’a Center is also hosting a collective exhibition for a group of Saudi Women artists. The artists represent different schools to enrich the diversity of the exhibition.
