JEDDAH, 2 January 2006 — This year’s Haj will climax on Jan. 9, when nearly 2.5 million pilgrims will stand in prayer in the plain of Arafat, some 12 km southeast of Makkah, Saudi authorities announced yesterday.

“As the lunar month of Dul Hijjah begins on Sunday, Jan. 1, the Arafat Day will be on Jan. 9 and Eid Al-Adha (the feast of sacrifice) will be on Jan. 10,” the Supreme Judiciary Council said in a statement.
