DHAKA, 7 January 2006 — The elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday raided a hide-out of the outlawed Jamatul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) on the outskirts of Dhaka and seized arms and explosives.
Following information gleaned from JMB suspects Wahidul Islam and Shafiq, security forces raided the area and seized a huge quantity of explosives, bomb-making materials and electronic goods.
Wahid was arrested on Thursday. Arms, including five pistols, five revolvers and 200 rounds of ammunition were also seized.
Shafiq was arrested on information extracted from Wahid. The men, in their late 20s, rented the house two months ago, RAB officials said.
They said agents found 24 kilograms of explosives, gun powder, safety pins and devices that can be used to make bombs and grenades in the raid yesterday.
Maoist Rebel Lynched
A guerilla of an outlawed Maoist outfit was killed in an attack and a police informer sustained bullet injuries in Kushtia district town, police said yesterday.
Police said Shaheen, 30, of Harinarayanpur village, was sitting in front of a shop when three men came on a motorcycle and started arguing with Shaheen. Then they shot him.
The assailants were leaving when the police and people managed to catch one of them — Abdur Rahim — and beat him severely. Abdur Rahim later died in Hospital.
