KARACHI, 8 January 2006 — Nine members of a family including six children were burned to death in Karachi as fire broke out from a kerosene stove that they used to beat the harsh cold, news reports said yesterday.
The family living in a makeshift shelter in Orangi town went to sleep without extinguishing the stove, private television channel Geo reported.
The blaze that broke out after midnight instantly reduced the shelter to ashes, killing all the occupants in their sleep.

In another incident, three children were killed Friday in a quake-hit area in Pakistan-administered Kashmir after their tent caught fire when family members burned wood to beat the biting cold.
