KARACHI, 24 January 2006 — Unidentified assailants shot dead a female schoolteacher and a watchman in Karachi yesterday.
The body of the schoolteahcer, Ghazala Yasmin, a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, has been recovered from Hyderi.
She was having a dispute with her Dubai-based husband, sources said.
In another incident, a watchman of an apartment, Abdul Hanan, was also shot dead in Parsi Colony.
The police termed both the killings as a result of personal enmity.
In a separate development, Chairman of Tehreek-e-Istiqlal (TI) Rehmat Khan Wardag, said that Sindh will suffer worst kind of water crisis and its agriculture will be ruined if the proposed Kalabagh dam was not built.
Wardag claimed that the proposed dam will not only protect the rights of Sindh but will also help increase water share of the province to meet its future water requirements.
The TI leader invited the political and nationalist leaders of Sindh to visit the proposed dam site and realize the existing ground situation before opposing this project.
He said the dam was in fact not a danger to Sindh as the province would rather suffer hugely if small dams were built from Attock to Mianwali belt.
The TI leader claimed that President Pervez Musharraf’s plan to construct the Kalabagh Dam was actually meant to protect the rights of Sindh farmers and to provide them with an alternate source of irrigation.
