Two Saudi engineers in one of the departments in civil affairs were involved in a bribery case recently. They received money from five people working in different trading companies.
According to Al-Watan newspaper, these engineers confessed after being caught and proven guilty. They were sentenced to three years in jail and fined SR300,000. The rest of the accused were sentenced to six months in jail and each paid a SR5,000 fine.
A month ago, I referred to a bribery scam where 41 people from the customs department accepted a bribe of SR2 million to facilitate the entrance of some cargo inside the Kingdom. We are confronting an incurable disease that employees are suffering from and others are being infected with in different sectors of the government.
As known, incurable diseases require advanced equipment to be diagnosed and excellent doctors to be treated. We have all of that and we can stop this disease from being infectious.
We should not be ashamed to admit having bribery in government sectors and elsewhere. Yet it is a shame not to take serious action to cut down and eliminate this crime from our society.
