JEDDAH, 2 February 2006 — Saudi boys and girls, along with adults, will have the privilege during the mid-year vacation to enjoy theater.
The drama group at the Jeddah branch of the Society of Arts and Culture will perform their award-winning children’s play “Who Will Save the City?” tonight at 9 at the King Fahd Coastal City.
The manager of the drama group, Abdullah Bahattab, said that the play was open to all children free of charge at the main theater in the King Fahd Coastal City. The play aims to educate the young through an interesting plot; it is directed by Saudi director and actor Khaled Al-Harbi, and was written by Salman Saymoaa. It stars Fouad Bakhsh, Hael Akeel and Muhammad Bahuthila.
“Who Will Save the City?” will be performed at the Janadriya Annual Cultural Festival in Riyadh in February. “Saudis are not used to live theater as there are very few shows performed for just a day or two; they are usually only individual attempts by a group of drama lovers. We want to give the youngsters the option of attending plays,” said Bahattab.
There are only two theaters in Jeddah — one at King Abdul Aziz University and the other at the King Fahd Coastal City.
