BHOPAL, 4 February 2006 — Religious tensions eased in a central Indian town yesterday after police briefly imposed a curfew, responding to a brawl between Hindus and Muslims at a shrine claimed by both communities.
The curfew was later lifted at about 3.15 p.m. after Muslims were escorted out of the Kamaal Maula Mosque in the Bhojshala complex after the Friday prayers.
According to Qazi Zalaullah Siddiqui, head cleric of Dhar, 15 people were allowed to offer prayers by the district administration as a symbolic gesture.
