KARACHI, 15 February 2006 — A prominent Karachi-based scientist has been honored by Iran for his remarkable contributions in the field of chemical science, sources said.
Professor Dr. M. Iqbal Chaudhry, acting director of the International Center for Chemical Sciences (ICCS), University of Karachi, was awarded with the 19th Khwarizmi International Award by Iran.
According to sources, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad bestowed a gold medal, shield and $7,500 on Dr. Chaudhry for his contributions in the field of chemical sciences in a ceremony held in Tehran.
Dr. Chaudhary was selected for this award from amongst 900 scientists from all over the world. The Higher Education Commission Chief professor Dr. Attaur Rehman and Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi professor Dr. Pirzada Qasim congratulated him for his achievement and said that it was an honor, not only for the whole nation but also for the university.
Dr. Chaudhry is the youngest scientist in the history of science and technology in Pakistan, who had got several national and international honors and awards and over 330 research publications in one of the top international journals and seven national and international patents as well.
Seven of his books had been published and circulated, internationally and the government had already awarded him “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” in recognition of his productive efforts in the field of science and technology.
